BTEC Advanced Award in Stoma & Continence Customer Support (2 Day Course)
Course Objective
To provide an understanding of the complex needs of the patient and the role of the specialist burse. To consider the skills required to ensure that professional and ethical standards relating to choice of products and services are met.

You, if you are involved in the delivery of services to customers rquiring stoma and continence products. The course will provide a basic understanding of the complex needs of the patient and the role of the specialist nurse.
You will learn about:
- Anatomy and physiology of the well functioning alimentary canal and urinary tract
- Pre and post operative care and discharge planning for stoma patients and associated products
- Awareness of how to assess correct product usage in relation to individual bladder and bowel needs
- Patient persepctive on living with an appliance
- Regulation versus self-regulation
- Understanding prescription procedures
- Service and delivery standards

This two-day course will equip customer service staff with the skills to ensure best practice in the delivery of services to customers requiring Stoma and Continence Products. Including physiology & Anatomy of the well-functioning Alimentary Canal and Bladder Function, and what can happen when things go wrong? Understanding different product usage, as well as understanding prescription procedures and the arrangements for provision of appliances under Part IX of the Drug Tariff introduced on 1 April 2010, to name just a few topics covered.
