Independent Living Design Awards

The Independent Living Design Awards aim to recognise good, innovative, commercially available products, that assist independent living.  Over the years designers and manufacturers have made huge strides in devising clever, practical products which enable elderly and disabled people to stay in their own homes leading an independent life.

In 2007, the first, second and third prize winners will be announced by broadcaster Angela Rippon at our annual dinner and 90th anniversary celebrations on 8 November, at Central Hall, Westminster, London..

The judging panel are drawn from a variety of backgrounds, and are all completely independent from BHTA. They look at entries from the point of view of innovation; aesthetics; usability and practicality; contribution to lifestyle and enhancement of quality of life - a new criteria - and finally clarity of user instructions and literature. The winner will receive an exclusively designed trophy.  Chairman of the judges in 2007 is Sue Norris, head of the Centre for Evidence-based Purchasing, part of NHS PASA.

The Donald Blatchford Dealer Excellence Award

The industry was shocked by the untimely death of Donald Blatchford of Mobility Showcase, who was one of the great figures in our industry.  At the 90th anniversary celebrations of the BHTA, a special new award entitled "The Donald Blatchford Dealer Excellence Award" will be presented.  Donald's wife, Ulla, and children Phillip and Nicola will be attending.  Donald was heavily involved in the work of the BHTA, fighting the dealer's corner and always standing up for the end user too.

Suppliers have been asked them to nominate dealers for the new award.  This isn't about the dealer business that is selling the most product though.  It's about treating customers, staff and suppliers with professionalism, respect and a caring attitude.

The Award is being sponsored and organised by Homecare Publishing Ltd, tel: 01536 418280; fax: 01536 418280 or email to info@thiis.co.uk
