The British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) has partnered with GS1 UK to encourage all its members to join GS1 UK to access the unique identifiers and bar codes needed for their products.
As a special offer to BHTA members, GS1 UK has agreed to waive the membership joining fee if they join before 30 June 2015.
GS1 UK is a not-for-profit standards organisation, working across sectors to automate and standardise supply chain processes.
Barcoding is increasingly important for businesses in our industry and new regulations are in place:
- in the UK, the Department of Health has mandated the use of GS1 barcoding standards, so every supplier of every product and service into the NHS must comply, across the entire NHS in England.
- in the US, all medical devices entering the US healthcare market must be identified using UDI (Unique Device Identification)
- in Europe, there will be similar UDI regulations
BHTA has produced its own guidance on barcoding for members – more details are available at www.bhta.net/barcoding.
