Community Equipment Dispenser Accreditation Body
01 October 2008

In a combined venture, endorsed by the Department of Health, the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) and the National Association Equipment Providers (NAEP) are pleased to announce the establishment of the Community Equipment Dispenser Accreditation Body (CEDAB)

This new body will be responsible for registering the premises of Retailers who wish to dispense prescriptions for the supply of community equipment under the Transforming Community Equipment Services (TCES) programme. Under the new process, registered Retailers will be required to ensure that their staff who dispense the prescriptions are also registered, as accredited Individuals, competent to do this. The management board for CEDAB will be chaired by Mrs Jean Hutfield for the first year and it will report to a new governance group currently in the process of being set up.

CEDAB will be issuing registrations with effect from 1st October and details of how to register as a Retailer, or an accredited Individual, are available from www.cedonline.org.uk

Jean Hutfield, Chair of NAEP says "This is an initiative that is open to the retail sector throughout the and will support the personalisation agenda. The knowledge that the retailer is registered and will have demonstrated that they have accredited staff who meet the agreed minimum competencies will engender confidence to both clinicians and members of the public."

Ray Hodgkinson, Director General of BHTA, welcomes this new approach to the provision of community equipment. He says “This new process develops the market and in the long term will lead to new innovative products and services. This is a real step forward, which will enable choice to drive the system.”
