The following letter has been sent for publication to the editors of The Daily Mail, The Guardian, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Express, The Daily Telegraph, The Metro, The Scotsman and The Daily Record in response to their coverage of a 10-level ramp fitted by a council in West Dunbartonshire:

Last night’s British Healthcare Awards were presented to some of the very best UK companies, products and individuals who are supporting thousands of people to live more independently, recognising their high quality service and innovation.
The issues surrounding the future funding for the NHS is now firmly in the public agenda. The BHTA is actively engaging with stakeholders to reiterate the part member companies can play in reducing the cost burden on the acute, community and Local Authority sectors. This week I have written to the Health Minister Jeremy Hunt, pointing out the inaccuracies contained within the recent Mail on Sunday reporting of the reissue/recycling of community equipment.
In Scotland, our Parliamentary Advisor has been arranging a series of meetings for the BHTA with Health Spokespeople from across the political parties where we will be outlining the key messages contained within the manifesto created by the BHTA Scotland Group.
The Association’s Childrens Equipment Section have this week launched their paper on the provision of equipment for children entitled ‘Failing Disabled Children Across the UK’. A concerted social media campaign resulted in the paper being accessed over 450 times within 48 hours.
Most people think that the government should consider using more private companies in the NHS “when they can provide high quality services more cheaply.”
